How can wind farms be used in islanded operation, black-start, and power system restoration scenarios? Welcome to a webinar that presents a project that gathers international knowledge and industry experience, develops an open-source test case, and identifies key challenges.
 
Traditionally, power system restoration in the Nordic region has relied on conventional generation resources such as hydro and gas power plants. At the same time, the potential contribution of large wind farms has received limited attention.
 
In this webinar, we will present the Swedish Wind Centre project Black-Start and Island Operation of Wind Farms in Sweden – Pre-study and Initial Analysis, which aims to lay the foundation for future research and development on the use of wind farms in islanded operation, black-start, and power system restoration scenarios.
 
The project gathers international knowledge and industry experience, develops an open-source test case, and identifies key challenges and future research directions for enabling wind farms to support grid restoration efforts in Sweden.

  • Development of an EMT wind farm test case model in DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Application of grid-forming control strategies in both wind turbine converters and battery energy storage systems.
